HAPPY MOTHER's DAY Maa... :)

Mother-in-law, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of her? The saree-clad, battle-axe? The nightmare that all the young daughter in laws fear? Yes, thanks to the daily soaps and the age-old beliefs, for every girl, the mother-in-law is analogized to a monster; and this starts even before the daughter-in-law gets to know her mother-in-law properly. Not only in India, mother in laws are demonized and ridiculed throughout the world.

Today, I was going through one of such posts, where the mother-in-law was ridiculed and was the target of all the humor and mockery. Yeah, I know it was a fun post and was not meant to harm feelings, but what kept me thinking is,“Are all the mother-in-laws same?” And my heart answered, “Absolutely not...!”

I am a married woman too; and trust me, if anyone can make the world a better place to live in for a daughter-in-law, then that person is no one else that the mother-in-law.

25 years I lived my life on my terms, until one fine day I was married off. Yes, I was afraid too. Things didn’t seem easy at first. But as I started adjusting in my new home, I realized there was another person in the house who was taking her baby steps in adjusting with the new relationship as well. She was my mother-in-law. From the very first day she didn’t leave any page unturned to let me feel comfortable in the new home. She made me feel comfortable to adjust to new situations, to new circumstances and to everything else that was new to me. She was strict and stern, but amiable and unassuming too. Obviously she has set the rules of the house, and everyone has been practicing it for years, but she didn’t force them on me. Time was what I needed and she was ready to give it to me.

I lost my mother when I was just 15 and my mother-in-law slowly is filling up the void which I had all these years. She treats me just the way my mother would have treated me. She is caring, loving, doesn’t allow me to do any household chores, but also shouts at me when I sit idle. She insists me to go for a walk to keep myself fit, but in the next moment brings a plate of aloo parantha with extra butter for me. She screams at me when I don’t study and also gives me a good takkar on computer games.  A second helping of dessert, a candy before dinner, a peck on the cheek before going to bed, switching off the fan to wake me up in the morning, these are her ways of showing love. And sometimes I feel, I am more in love with her than my husband. He stays away, at least she doesn’t. We do have our little issues, our tiny irritations, but we solve them over a cup of coffee or a bar of chocolate.

But you know the best part? She never asks about the “good news”. Moreover, when people ask about it, she answers, “Ahh..She is just 26. Let her grow up first, let her finish her Ph.D and find a good job” And ohh..!! How much I love her.

So basically, not every mother-in-law is an ogress and not every daughter-in-law is a sati-sabitree. Tales of humiliation, intrusion into each other’s private lives, death threats, also battles over who controls family life revolves around this duo.

We should understand that just the way we have disagreements with our mother at home; we will have differences with our mom-in-law as well.

For me, my mother-in-law is a great lady, and if I need her, I know she is there for me. She is my strength, my “Rock of Gibraltar” and it didn't take me much time to go from saasu-maa to maa.
Wishing her a very happy Mother’s Day, in advance though… :D
Kyun ki kal toh saradin party

P.S. This is post is not meant to hurt anybody.
Thank you :)

Happy Mother's Day, Papa... :)

In the life of many creative persons we often notice success and failure oscillating between light and darkness with occasional clashes. Through a torturous journey, many reach their desired destination. Yet, if these clashes and struggles become tougher and prolonged, many persons invariable change their course. My father Sadhan Chakraborty is an exception.

Being a single Dad and raising a child on your own is tough; I would say it is one of the toughest jobs in the whole world. I lost my mother at a tender age of 15.  She passed unexpectedly; I was shocked and had just been up crying on and off. My father was shunned too; the skyline of his world crumbled. The day of her passing was one of the most transcendent moments of our lives.

We were in mourning—feeling grief and sorrow at the loss. And at that time, my daddy accepted the responsibility of raising me alone and pledged to become a better dad from that day. There is a myth exists that mothers are the only ones who is doing it all by themselves and the men of the family vanishes from the scene when the going gets tough. But it is not right always...

He swallowed all his sweet desires to do what was right in the name of my happiness. From cooking, packing my ‘tiffin’ for the school to doing dishes and ironing my dresses; he did them all by himself. And ohh..!! He had to rush to work on time as well. He got exhausted at the end of the day, but never said anything. Only his watery eyes, tired from the exhaustion of the day long grind were his words. And did I tell you? He never went to sleep unless I was asleep..just like mothers do.. right?

Then came the time when he had to leave his job at the defence to give more time to me. Yes, I used to stay alone in the house and that’s what disturbed him. He didn’t want to see me feeling lonely and cribbing about life. You know how things can be stupidly difficult for a teenage girl. He just tried to be a good father and a good mother. He tried to put a grateful and positive spin on every situation; telling himself that he is doubly blessed to play the role of both my mom and dad.

Little I knew how sad he actually was, how lonely he actually felt. Only painting could provide him some respite from this suffering. Yes, he was a painter by passion which later became his profession. His paintings were the beautiful amalgamation of various dreams and experiences of daily life.

I am so proud to call him my Papa.

Cheers to the dads who have to fulfill the role of both parents. Cheers to the moms who are single and are awesome. Cheers to every mom and dad for being there for us. Cheers to Parenthood :)

Lastly, Happy birthday Maa and Papa.. Even though I can not see you two, I feel that you both are near. Please do not forget me, for you two are always in my heart, my thoughts and prayers. Love you both. And no matter where you are, celebration toh banta hain..

Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Creams Reviews, Swatches and LOTDs

Lip creams are totally in vogue now. This ‘neither lipstick nor lip gloss’ thing is the latest fad and people are going gaga over this new kind of lip color. And why shouldn't they be? Even I am a crazy lover of lip creams. So recently when I came across the Miss Claire soft matte lip creams, I could stop myself from getting a few.

So today I’ll be sharing the reviews and swatches of the shades I got. I bought shades 01, 05, 08 and 12. Yes, they have shade numbers and not names. But as Shakespeare said, “What’s in a name?” ; till the product inside is good.

Packaging:-
A transparent cylindrical bottle with black cap which has a doe-foot applicator attached inside. The doe foot applicator is of decent quality and applies the product easily and evenly.

Price:-
I got them for 180 each. However their prices vary from seller to seller. They increase or decrease price as per their choice and demand of the products.

SHADES:-

01 it is a flamboyant shade of red. Under natural light it looks blue based red and under artificial light in looks more orange.

05 it is a very pretty peachy pink. Under natural light it is pinker than peachy and under artificial light it is peachier.

08 almost similar to 05 but it is a tad a pinker version.

12 it is a stunning plummish-pink which is very wearable.

don't know why the camera isn't picking up the right shades and intensity :/

Texture:-
The texture is very soft and creamy and glides on lips like a dream. Within a minute of application it settles into a gorgeous and comfortable semi matte finish. It neither settles into fine lines nor does it accentuate dry patches.

Pigmentation:-
Insanely pigmented; they go gorgeously opaque in single swipe. If you want a softer look, just apply a few dots on your lips and smack them together.
See the picture below, they are swiped only once.

Staying power:-
They stay pretty long. It stays for around 6-7 hours on me and also survives snacks and drinks.

Summing up my Likes and Dislikes:-

What I like about Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Creams:-
  • Stunning colours.
  • Texture to die for.
  •  Non-sticky.
  • Keep lips pillowy.
  • Glides beautifully without tugging or pulling.
  • Insanely pigmented.
  • A little is needed to get the desired shade, so the product would last long.
  • It covers pigmented lips beautifully.
  • Stays long.
  • Dirt cheap.
  • Widely available..If not in shops..definitely on the internet.
  • Nice travel friendly packaging.
  • Easy to use applicator.

What I don’t like Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Creams:
  • None..I absolutely love these.

Final Thoughts:-
I adore these beauties. Lovely shades, beautiful texture, incredibly pigmented and stays long, And the best part is, it is so cheap. These have taken my love for lip creams to a whole new level. I am so happy with these. I just can’t stop admiring them.

The Blushing Bride: Shrayashee Saha

Hello everyone,

Today we have another gorgeous bride on our “Blushing Bride” section. Meet our pretty bride Shrayashee Saha, who got married on December 2014.

Yes, it has already been a year that she got entwined in this beautiful bond, but the memories are still so fresh. Thus here she is with her beautiful wedding story. Have a look :)

How did you guys meet?
“We met on the first day of our kindergarten school. Yes, we knew each other for so long. We used to study in the same school till Class 3 and then he shifted to a different school. We were only classmates, so as the saying goes “out of sight out of mind”, then again we met during our coaching classes in Class X, but as we were busy and serious about our career, we opted only to be friends. Thereafter we both parted away as I was doing my studies in law and he was pursuing his MBA.
Destiny had some other plans for us , so we again met each other after 7 years , but it took just few hours to understand that we were made for each other as time failed to fade the fondness and love that we nurtured for so many years , but was unable to express due to pressing situation like career and studies . We were established in our respective fields so it was not much of a problem to approach our parents with our decision to marry each other which they happily welcomed.”

How long did you get to plan your entire wedding?
“Our parents met each other officially to decide on the date on 20th April, 2014 and it was decided that we would get married on December 7, 2014, so I got approximately 7 months to complete all my preparations, from booking the hall, to buying my clothes, the gifts for my husband’s family and relatives, buying jewelries, booking photographer and so on.
I always dreamt of an open air wedding, so it had to be terrace wedding. I just went crazy for finding a perfect terrace banquet, even if we found some it was way beyond our budget. Finally I found the banquet hall, which was just as I dreamt of, a proper terrace banquet, at 36, Chowringhee Banquet hall at Lee Road, Bhawanipore.”
Tell us something where you got your outfits and accessories?
“My mother always wanted that I should wear a traditional red benarasi saree, but as rebel by nature I always wanted to wear a different color , and so after a lot of argument with my mother and finally with her consent a bought a baby pink color Banarasi from Adi Akshay Bastralay  at M.G Road , Kolkata.

As every mediocre Bengali family my parents were buying my wedding jewelry from last four years, with all the savings that they could make. So on my wedding; I had enough to deck myself beautifully.  I wore a long necklace along with a pair of chandelier earrings which had intricate fresco designs and was purchased from P.C Chandra Jewelers, Elgin Road showroom. There was a small necklace, which was purchased from Senco gold jewelers, Jadavpur showroom. I wore a medium length adjustable necklace with a huge flower as the pendant, it was my ashirwad gift from my in laws and it was also purchased from Senco jewelers.  I am very fond of bangles and always wanted to own a Mantasha (broad gold bangle with a lock) and my wish was fulfilled, when my parents purchased one from Senco gold jewelers. There were also 4 pairs of gold bangles from P.C Chandra jewelers. I also wore a pair of Churbala  , which were of my mother’s and I always wanted to have them from my childhood days so those were gifted to me by Ma on my wedding day, and they are most special bangles that I own.
The nose ring and the mangtikawere costume jewelry, because I did not prefer them in gold as they won’t be worn often, and they were purchased from Chique jewelry in the ground floor of Metro Plaza.”

Where did you get your hair and makeup done ?
“My Hair and makeup was done by Mr Ujjwal Datta , who is extremely talented and very perfect at what he does. I was very particular about the fact that I needed a subtle makeup yet attractive one, so kudos to him to balance the same. He is a makeup artist to many Tollywood actors and actress and only does a bridal on special request. I was lucky that he agreed to do my makeup.”

Tell us something about your photographer?
“Photographs are a very important and crucial affair in a wedding, as the photographs are the only source which keeps the special moments alive. So after a lot of research I decided on choosing “Vermillion Diaries” as my photographer, whom I found on Facebook . Mr Soudip Dutta, was the person who took all the photographs, starting from my pre wedding shoot, and all the moments of the wedding were captured starting from the Gaye Holud ceremony till the next day at the time of Vidaai. The pictures captured were very natural and candid and the best thing was I was not asked to pose (as I am bad at that).”

Any special moment you want to share with us?
“The special moment for every girl I suppose in her wedding is when you get the signs of being wedded, so for me the special moments were when in the morning I was made to wear the sakha and pola and finally the next special moment was when my childhood friend became my husband while he smeared my head with the auspicious red vermillion in the ceremony of Sindur Daan .”

Any advice you would like to give to the readers?
“My advice to all girls who are planning for their wedding is do not experiment with your looks. You can be most comfortable in attire which you like, so wear at your choice, the colour that makes you happy, because if you are happy, automatically you will look beautiful. The whole procedure of getting ready for an grand event like marriage is an festival in itself, so enjoy that whole festivity. Please do not stess out, have enough opf sleep which will help you have a glowing skin.
Be yourself and always have that dazzling smile.”

DECKandDINE says:-
Love that pink Banarasi saree on her.  I always thought that a bride looks good only in red benarasi on her wedding day, but women today have changed the way I used to think. She looked so beautiful. Makeup Artist Mr Ujjwal Datta did a perfect job. I am glad she didn’t change Shrayashee into a completely different person. Her makeup had touches of rose gold and golden which went very well with her saree. She looked so happy and at ease, the smile says it all.

]

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Shrayashee.
May your life be filled with happiness and delights. Good luck on the days to come.

Miss Claire Blushers Review and Swatches

$

Hello everyone,

Hope you know about the Miss Claire haul post I published few days back. I was mostly excited about their lip creams, but couldn't stop myself from buying these beauties when I saw them.

So presetting four blushers from Miss Claire; they are in shade numbers 12, 17, 23 and 26.
Yes, they have shade numbers and not names. But as Shakespeare said, “What’s in a name?”; till the product inside is good.
So let’s jump straight into the reviews…

Price:-
140 INR
Packaging:-
The blush comes safely enclosed in a square shaped case with rounded corners. Lightweight and compact. The transparent lid makes it easy to detect the actual shade inside. Love the diamond pattern on the blush. The packaging is exactly like those NYX blushes.

For other details I’ll go shade wise:-

SHADE 12:-
A very pretty peachy brown on the pan and applies peachier on cheeks. It doesn't have any shimmers and has a soft powdery texture.
But it has poor pigmentation. It needs multiple swipes to actually show on your skin. Due to the poor pigmentation this blush stays only for 1-2 hours.

SHADE 17:-
It looks matte mid-tone pink, but in real it is a cool toned, bubblegum pink kind of color. Pretty and feminine.
It has a soft powdery texture and applies smoothly on cheeks. It is non chalky and gives a really natural, beautiful and feminine flushed look. Pigmentation is awesome and stays for about 5 hours.

SHADE 23:-
Peachy-rose pink which I feel is very unique. It has finely filled shimmers and the texture feels soft and smooth. Great for evening wear.

It is well pigmented and stays for 6+ hours.

SHADE 27:-
It has the right amount of peach-brown pigments and golden shimmers in it which looks so beautiful and feels so soft. The shimmers are non-chunky and the texture feels soft and smooth.

Great for evening wear. It is well pigmented and stays for 6+ hours.

Summing up my LIKES and DISLIKES:-

What I liked about Miss Claire blushers:-

  • Beautiful shades.
  • Shade No 12 and 17 are versatile, can be used both during day and at night.
  • Shade 23 and 26 are great for evening outing.
  • Soft and smooth texture.
  • Shimmers are non-gritty.
  • Blends well.
  • Other than shade no 12, rest are well pigmented.
  • Have decent staying power.
  • Sturdy packaging.
  • Dirt cheap.
What I don’t like about Miss Claire blushers:-

  • Wish no 12 had a better pigmentation.
  • Though Miss Claire lip creams are widely available, their blushers are not very easy to find. (You can check this post to know where you can get these.)
Final thoughts:-
These are really nice and I am pretty much happy with my buy. These are great options for someone looking to ease themselves into the world of blushers. From pinks, peaches, brown to even red, plumy pinks and mauves, the brand has got a vast range of colors from which you can pick your favourites. So if you see these at a store, don’t think twice before buying.

The Blushing Bride: Anjali Arora

“If you want something to last forever, you treat it differently. You shield it and protect it. If it ever becomes tarnished, you lovingly polish it until it gleams like new. It becomes special because you have made it so, you have fight for it and so it grows more beautiful and precious as time goes by.”
These are the lines by F. Burton Howard and that’s what comes to my mind when I think of Anjali’s love story.

Yes, today on The Blushing Bride series we have a very pretty Punjabi kudi who had to go through a lot of struggle to marry her love of life. Life is not always easy, but that’s what makes us strong. Isn't?

So welcoming the very pretty bride Anjali Arora on DeckandDine.

How did you guys meet?
We met on my first day of our college, he was senior to me, and was there to take ragging of me. We met in 2007 and after the college ended in 2011 we use to plan for wedding and used to dream a lot. But as it was supposed to be totally an inter-caste marriage, it was actually a struggle for us.  We started convincing our family for the wedding. But it took years to make my father understand and then finally agree. During March i.e on Holi he said yes and said to proceed with wedding preparations and I was spellbound. Can’t tell how happy I was on that day and finally exactly after 15 days we got married.

Tell us something about where you got your outfits and accessories?
I shopped mostly from Rajouri garden , Kamla nagar n Pitampura (kohat enclave). Actually mostly all trousseau suits were from Novelty Rajouri garden. I took my bridal lehnga from Odhni –Pitampura, was totally satisfied and liked it at first glance. Bridal accessory I got it on rent from Rohini, Delhi; as it was too heavy and I knew I won’t wear it later.

Where did you get your makeup and hair done?
I got my makeup done from a freelancer. I never wanted to go for brand name instead I preferred the one who can make me look as I wanted to look on my day.

On one hand it had the dulha with jaimala and on the other it had the dulhan with jaimala. then there was the dulhan performing shiv puja, and the couple performing different wedding rituals. The whole wedding story reflected on her hands. It took more than six hours to complete the mehendi.

Tell us something about your photographer?

Pre wedding
Aperture Struck Photography
Bride side Wedding photographer
Kwality studios (family photographer from Rohtak , Haryana )
Groom side
Shalu Vision Photography, Delhi
They covered all d candid and still moments..was more  satisfied with the candid  ones.

Any special moment you want to share with us?

Whole wedding was special, but the moment when he added up the maang and Magalsutra , it was the feeling and I was like I am completely yours.

Any advice you want to all the readers out there?

Especially for the bridal lehnga, don’t look for more options in market; instead go for the one which you like first at a glance. Instead of trying multiple shops and wasting time better visit limited places and get the one which you love at first sight.

DeckandDine says:-
Anjali is the first non-Bengali bride who got featured in DeckandDine. I loved her look. I had this preconception notion that Punjabi Brides means excessive makeup and way too blingy outfits. But this girl proved me wrong. I loved her makeup and her choice of accessories. She let her gorgeous bridal lehenga do the talking. Loved her Punjabi traditional ‘chuda’ and ‘kalirey’ too. She looked beautiful beyond words.

Wishing the love birds lifelong happiness. May the light of your love always glow upon your marriage!!! :)

GET THE LOOK: Aishwarya Rai's Blue Smoky Eyes at the Cannes 2016 Red Carpet

Hello everyone,

This is my first celebrity inspired makeup. Yes, I haven’t tried any celebrity inspired makeup before because I was too afraid, actually still I am. I am a complete novice when it comes to doing makeup and that’s what kept me away from doing celebrity inspired looks.
But this time I had to, because I had promised a friend that I’ll start doing celebrity inspired looks soon and first one will be Aishwarya Rai’s Cannes 2016 look. Thanks Manali for the push.

So as we all know that the L’Oreal muse, at the premiere of Slack Bay (Ma Loute), paired her stunning embellished, golden dress with cobalt blue eyes that made for quite an interesting contrast.

I have tried recreating this look today, but keeping my comfort in mind, I have come up with a more wearable version.

So here it goes.

STEPS:-

BASE:-
My foundation is L'OREAL PARIS Infallible Matte Foundation in shade Porcelain. I don’t know if it is because of Aishwarya Rai, my hands naturally went to this L’Oreal foundation today. Apply a good concealer under the eyes, preferably couple of shades lighter than your actual your skin tone. It is very important to have a bright under eye area for any eye look to work.  I applied LA Girl HD Pro concelaer.

EYES:-

Make sure you have an even and smooth base. Apply an eye primer so that the eye shadows can be applied in a smooth, even layer, and so that it will stay in place on the eyelid. I have used Urban Decay eye shadow Potion. Groom your eyebrows.
Take a slightly shimmery cobalt blue eye shadow on a pencil brushand draw a V on the outer corner of your eye. It will be like < on left eye and like > on right eye. Now blend the blue towards the middle. Now take a shimmery beige eye shadow and apply on the centre and inner corners of your lids. Make sure there are no harsh lines in between the blue and beige. After that take a light brown eye shadow and apply on your crease, blending well to remove any harsh lines. Apply a champagne colored eye shadow on brow bone. Now take a cobalt blue shimmery eye penciland line your upper lash line. Apply kohl on water line and then a stroke of the same blue eyeliner. Finally apply strokes of your favorite mascara on top and bottom lashes. I applied L'Oreal Paris Kajal Magique and L'Oreal million lashes mascara.
All the eye shadows are from Coastal Scents 252 eye shadow pallet
I also wore a pair of grayish blue contact lens on my eyes; you can happily ignore this step. :D

LIPS:-
Finish off the look with a pinky nude, glossy lip color. I used L'Oreal Nude Ballet. You can apply any subtle colored lipstick and lip gloss of your choice.

CHEEKS:-
I applied light swirl of L'Oreal LUCENT MAGIQUE BLUSH in Duchess Rose. You can apply any soft natural colored blush on your cheeks. I used Benefit Highbeam on my cheekbones and nose-bridge to highlight.

I don’t know if it is because of Aishwarya Rai, my hands naturally went to L'Oreal products today.

So hope you liked the look. Also let me know your favorite Cannes celebrity looks this year. I’ll try recreating them.

GET THE LOOK: SONAM KAPOOR at CANNES 2016 Press Meet

Hello everyone,

I am in a “get the look” phase right now and as a result you’ll be able to see back to back celebrity inspired looks. I guess you all have already seen my version of Aishwarya Rai’s Blue Smoky eyes at the Cannes 2016(if not, click HERE) and today I am back with another celebrity inspired makeup from the Cannes Red Carpet 2016.
Today my source of inspiration is Sonam Kapoor. She donned a simple and sassy look for her second day at the Cannes Film Festival. But what i liked mostly about the whole look was her makeup. It was a morning affair and I fell in love with the look instantly. The Ralph and Russo couture no doubt felt so youthful, but her makeup hogged all the limelight. Chic, sassy and so summery.

So here I am presenting my version of Sonam Kapoor’s look at the Press Conference in Cannes 2016. This is a very fresh, easy to do makeup look and is perfectly appropriate for summers.

So lets the tutorial begin..

BASE:-Start by prepping your skin. Apply a moisturizer and also don’t forget your sunscreen if you are going out in the sun. Apply dots of your favorite liquid foundation all over the face and blend with a wet sponge. This will give a dewy finish.

EYES:-

Apply a concealer under your eyes and on any discoloration on the face.Groom your brows and buff little brown eye shadow on the crease to define it. I framed my eyes with a thin stroke of black Kohl and smudged it. You can ignore this step, but I prefer doing this as it makes the colored liners pop. Now as you can see Sonam Kapoor is wearing a pink eye liner on her upper lash line. Well I don’t have a pink liner so I went with my pink lip liner. I draw a line as close to my kohled line, starting near the tear duct and ended with a wing at the end of each eye. Add a touch of yellow to the inner corner of the eyes. Finally apply loads of mascara to finish your eye makeup.

CHEEKS:-
Apply a pink blush on the cheeks and your favourite highlighter on the high cheek bones and nose bridge.

LIPS:-
Apply a pink lip cream to round of your look.

Argghhh.. My yellow liner turned out to be way more vibrant than what actually I wanted. I didn’t have any yellow eyeliner or lip pencil so I mixed some yellow eye shadow pigments with eye primer and water :P

So hope you liked the look. Also let me know your favorite Cannes celebrity looks this year. I’ll try recreating them.

GET THE LOOK: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Cannes 2016 Smokey eyes and Lavender Lips

*DISCLAIMER: Not for the faint-hearted. The pictures of Madhubani Chakraborty in this post can give you nightmares. So beware.*

Hello everyone,

Aishwarya Rai’s lavender lips at the Cannes film festivals have stormed the internet, dominated headlines and became the butt of all the jokesand trolls.
Yes, it is true that even I didn't like that color on her at first and thought a different tone, like a deep purple, would have nailed the look. This shade of lavender lips didn't really complement her beauty or her personality.

But the media and people started shamming her on social media sites, which started from her choice of lip color, how “snake-bitten” she looked to how much fat she has gained and how many wrinkles are visible around her eyes. Come'on people, she is beautiful and wanted to experiment. She took a big risk which didn't work for her. And that's totally OK, it happens. Not every day is your best day. It is totally your choice to not like it, but that definitely doesn't give you any right to humiliate her.
And as I was going through all the posts shamming the lady, I somehow fell in love with her look. Yes, not everybody has the guts to flaunt such a lip color that too in one of the biggest star studded galas of the year.
When we are so accustomed to lambasting people over such petty things that we tend to ignore that she was present there for the premiere of her film Sarbjit (film based on a sensitive and important issue) and also she had been representing a well-known cosmetic brand for 15 years there- this is enough to show her sustained success and popularity.

Anyway, today I am here with a tutorial of this makeup. And yes, I can never imagine myself wearing such a lip color in public. I don't have the courage to do so. Hats off to her...

So let the tutorial begin...

BASE:-
Start by prepping your skin. Apply a moisturizer and also don’t forget your sunscreen if you are going out in the sun. Apply dots of your favorite liquid foundation all over the face and blend with a wet sponge. This will give a dewy finish.

EYES:-
Apply a concealer under your eyes and on any discoloration on the face. Groom your brows. Tight line your eyes and pat black eyeshadow on your lid. Now take a fluffy brush, swirl over a brown eye shadow and blend the black on the crease area. Line your waterline with Kohl and smudge it with the same black eye shadow.  Buff some brown eye shadow on the black shadow on waterline too. Finally apply loads of mascara to finish your eye makeup.

CHEEKS:-
Contour and then apply a pink blush on the cheeks and also your favorite highlighter on the high cheek bones and nose bridge.

LIPS:-
Now comes the part you all were waiting for.
I don’t have any lipstick that can match the color and exact texture of Aishwarya’s lip color. So I applied eye shadow over a creamy base. My base was my concealer. So after applying a thick layer of concealer, I lined my lips with a nude lip pencil and then filled in with lilac eye shadow. Well, I did a subtle ombre effect. Darker purple on the corners and lighter in the middle.

This is the look without Lenses:-

And this is how the makeup looks with lenses on:-

So hope I didn't scare the shit out of you. Let me know your favorite Cannes celebrity looks this year. I’ll try recreating them.

BHUTAN: The Land of Thunder Dragon and HAPPINESS.

Sandwiched between the two giants, India and Tibet, Bhutan is said to be the land that has remained in mystic isolation for centuries. Known to the world by several names, Bhutan has still remained untouched by Western affluence.  Hidden deep in the great Himalayan Mountains, the Bhutanese have treasured their natural environment as it is seen as the source of all life and the abode of the gods and spirits.

My love affair with Bhutan is not a new one. I have a Bhutanese friend from school days who often invited me to Bhutan. And finally we visited this mythical land last year. Bhutan is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been to; the people are warm, friendly and helpful. To me Bhutan was love at first sight. If happiness was a place - Bhutan would definitely be the heart of it . .

Flight to Paro from Kolkata:

The 2 hours flight from Kolkata to Paro is breathtaking.  Cotton soft clouds, meandering streams and lush green fields accompany you throughout the journey. The Paro airport is actually nestled in a narrow valley between two ridgelines. When landing you’ll feel that the aircraft wings almost touching the mountains. The airport is also built in traditional Bhutanese architecture and is unlike any other airport that I have seen. And I was like, “Enjoy baby, you’re in the Land of Momos, Thukpa and Happiness.”

Where did we Stay:-

Taj Tashi. It is the first Five Star Hotel in Bhutan and it screams mysticism and magic from every nook. The hotel is a perfect blend of elaborate Bhutanese architecture and modern designs and amenities. Wooden décor, murals and mosaic and that sumptuous views of the mountains that surround the valley will leave you with a feeling of contentment.

The bubbling Jacuzzi is so refreshing. In a cold winter day, getting into this hot water pool amidst scenic mountains is an absolute blessing.

Anyway, without anymore banter, let us get into business now…

PLACES to VISIT:-
Thimpu is the capital of this fascinating country. A large gate and a Stupa welcomes you to this place. Buddhism dominated Thimpu is not a typical capital city. An easy paced tour on the lanes of Thimpu is enough to get under the surface of Bhutanese culture. I spent 7 days in Bhutan, and it included travelling to the interior along the remote and isolated Phobjika valley to villages swarmed with century-old fortresses that have survived the ravages of Nature and man. We also were lucky enough to witness the festivals that celebrate the ever so vibrant Bhutananese culture.

So now the best places to visit in Bhutan..

PARO TAKTSANG:- Also known as the “Tiger nest” and it hangs on a cliff at 3,120m.

THIMPHU TASHICHHO DZONG:- Tashichhoedzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress on the northern edge of the city of Thimpu in Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu.

Motithang Takin Preserv:Located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan is a wildlife reserve area for Takin, the national animal of Bhutan.

Buddha Point:-The largest statue of Buddha in the country sits here. The 51.5 meter bronze statue is three storied with several chapels. The body of Buddha is further filled with 125000 smaller statues of Buddha. The view of Thimpu valley from this point is spell-binding.

Memorial Chorten:- “It is one of most iconic monuments and the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan, built to honour the Third Druk Gyalpo (Jigme Dorji Wangchuk) and to World Peace in 1974.” – Wiki

DOCHULA Pass:- There are 108 memorial chortens or Buddhist stupas which were built as a memorial in honour of the Bhutanese soldiers who were killed in the December 2003 battle against Assamese insurgents from India.

CHIMI LHAKHANG (Fertility Temple): Women come to this monastery seeking blessing of motherhood and sometimes to get the name of the newborn child.

PUNAKHA DZONG:- Punakha was the first capital of Bhutan and the country’s first king was crowned here in 1907. Pristine environment and colorful architecture are characteristic features of this place.

PUNAKA SUSPENSE BRIDGE:- It is a crazy swinging bridge. It sways insanely and is pretty thrilling. Not for the faint-hearted.

NATIONAL MUSEUM:- A great place to see Bhutan's history as well as their native style of architecture. This place offers fabulous views of the city of Paro.

Gangtay-Phobjikha Valley:- The trek is very scenic with the sound of the waterfall breaking the silence. Green moss hanging down the blue pine trees, black butterflies enjoy the freshness of the waterfall and colorful prayer flags dancing in the breeze; endangered bird the black-necked cranes can also be seen here once a year.

Jomolhari:- What would be more amazing then the place with white peaks, blue sky and a crystal lake!! You need special permission to go there.

Sharing a few more pictures from the trip. Because any picture from Bhutan is a good picture to brighten up a lousy day. Miss the tranquility and serenity in the Land Of Happiness.

Bhutan is bestowed with unique cultural and traditional values. The sovereignty and the identity of the country is preserved and reined over by the great Wangchuck Dynasty. The Buddhist Himalayan nation is the land of mystical myths and the Land of the greatest & the powerful warriors defending and defeating their enemies.
Land of unique architecture, vibrant culture, festivals, belief and devotion, exotic flora and fauna, pristine environment and colourful textiles; Bhutan is indeed the land of happiness and blissful people.

If I could repeat any of my travels, it would be Bhutan.

Summer Sunflower Nail Art Step-by-Step Tutorial

$
0
0
Sunflowers are appealing for their bright color and the vibrance that they bring to the landscape. Blooming commonly in summers, I feel there can be nothing more soothing than the view of a field of Sunflowers in the scorching summers. So today I thought of doing a summery sunflower nail art. It is so easy to do and I hope you enjoy this sunflower nail art design!

What I used:-
  • Nail polishes. (Bright yellow, shimmery brown, black, green, white)
  • Nail polish remover
  • Paint brush
  • Hair clip (used as dotting tool)

STEPS:-

  • Paint a black French manicure.
  • I drew flowers only on three nails, leaving the ring and index devoid of flowers. Well, you can draw flowers on all nails. So using the shimmery brown nail polish I draw the center of the flowers on the three nails.
  • Now take the yellow nail polish and draw petals. Paint the petals little bit smaller on the sections where there is no more space.
  • Now using the green polish draw leaves.
  • Time for detailing. This totally depends on you; like how much in detail you want to go. I prefer basic shading and highlighting. So I just took the same brown nail polish and filled in between the petals concentrating on the lower part of the petals. Then I mixed the green and black to get a darker shade of green with which I shaded the leaves. With white nail polish I just added a few tiny dots beside the leaves. With the black polish I applied tiny little dots over the brown polish on the center of the flower.
  • For the other two nails on which I didn't draw the flowers, I just applied yellow dots on the smile line of my nails; first one big and then getting smaller as you move from one side to another. i encircled my vote ink with yellow dots too.
  • Let everything dry, apply top coat and you are done.

I am not a great painter and moreover, don't know why I had really shaky hands today and thus the drawing didn't come out the way i wanted to . Just hope you find this tutorial useful. And hope you like it in spite of the not so tidy work . Don’t forget to pour in your comments , suggestions and give a G+ if you like it.

The Blushing Bride: Madhubani Chakraborty

$

Hello everyone,

I believe the narcissist in all of us makes us a little keener on anyone who reminds us of ourselves. Similarly, we find people with the same habits, same color hair, eyes, and yes, same name as ourselves.

So meet our new bride, Madhubani Chakraborty, who got married in January this year. She stays in Mumbai and had her wedding took place in her hometown Kolkata. So lots of tips for brides from Bombay and Calcutta.

An ardent animal lover, Madhubani describes herself as an intrepid who possesses a wicked sense of humour. Lawyer by profession and gourmand by passion, she likes to chronicle her culinary explorations on her Facebook page called 'My Confessions of Gluttony'.
So let’s catch a glimpse of her wedding story.

How did you guys meet?
It may sound boring if I say we met on shaadi.com, however there were quite a few twists. Once I got his number our first conversation went on for 45 minutes or so. While I appeared strange because I asked HR type questions like "where do you see yourself 5 years from now?". He, on the other hand was quite friendly. We kept chatting over phone for about a week and then decided to meet. He lived in Delhi, while I was in Mumbai. His parents lived in Guwahati and mine, in Kolkata. Too many cities meant a lot of travelling. But, something told me I should meet and decide. I told my family I wanted to go to Delhi. They vehemently opposed this thought saying that instead he should come down. Yet I managed to convince them and met him in Delhi. We liked each other on our first date, and told our parents to initiate discussions. To cut a long story short, we met about 4 times and got engaged in June last year. In fact, because of multiple cities, not everyone could meet together. My father saw him for the first time on the day of our engagement and his father saw me for the first time also on the same day.

So how long did you get to plan your entire wedding?
We knew the wedding date in June, so that gives us about 6 months. However, we started doing actual work fairly late, only after Pujo. We first got about preparing a guest list. The list is very important and takes quite a while to be made. It keeps getting updated till the last week before the wedding. It’s important to first get a head count for every occasion. I had a mehendi day, a sangeet evening and the wedding evening to plan. Once we confirmed the guest list of about 800 people, we sorted the catering out. Most caterers in Kolkata can manage about 500 heads, but for larger crowds, I needed a pro. We confirmed with Kohli Caterers, who did a fantabulous job with catering on all days, extensive menu and delectable food. Since my father is a member of one of Kolkata's premier clubs, venue and decor was not an issue and was booked in advance. With these three main issues in stride we started printing cards in October, sorting out invites and following up with calls and messages to confirm head counts. Next, the eldest jethi/aunt of the family took charge of all rituals and coordination with the Pandit ji. We had outstation guests so booking of hotels (with tentative room count) and arranging for rented cars for three days was coordinated by my sister. It’s very important to allot responsibilities to key and responsible members of the family and have meetings every evening to discuss progress and pending tasks. We did this for about 15 days before the wedding with check lists.

Tell us something about where you got your outfits and your makeup and hair done?
My mehendi outfit was designed by Sweta Kedia, who is a couturier from Mumbai and has a store by the name "Origin" in Prabhadevi. We discussed what I'd like to wear and color combinations, and she made me a perfect outfit of mint green and pink, very much on the likes of a design I had wanted. With the outfit I wore diamond polki earrings. Make up and styling were done by Fashion Make-up Artist Sujit Paul and Fashion Designer Rajarshi Mukherjee.

My sangeet outfit was from Kalki, Worli. It was a timeless sunset orange color that I had chosen. I always wanted to wear a lehenga I knew I couldn’t wear one for the wedding because it had to be a Benarasi Saree, I chose a lehenga for the Sangeet evening. It had a stunning broad border, with gold gota patti and sequence work on it. Designer and family friend, Meena Dholakia designed a beautiful low back short choli adding a modern twist to this otherwise traditional look. I draped the dupatta like a saree since as per the stylist it would add height and look better on my broad frame. Again, make up was done by Sujit. With this I wore a diamond polki set (earrings, maang tika and necklace along with a wristlet) that was a wedding present from my aunt.

The wedding had to be traditional. I picked up the Wedding Benarasi saree from Indian SIlk House Exclusives (Lake Road). For the wedding evening, I wanted to look soft and natural and approached the best, Avijit Chanda who I had heard of before, but after seeing him on Band Baaja Bride, I really wanted my make up to be done by him. Avijit has a team of stylists and artists who take care of hair, makeup, chandan design and saree draping. There was a lot of jewellery on my wedding evening that I had to wear. I wore an ear shaped gold earring called a "kaan" with jhumkas. I had a meenakari necklace, a gem studded jarawa necklace with intricate work, a sita haar and some other heirloom jewelry.

Tell us something about your photographer?
Most photographers are booked during the season unless you book way in advance. They come for an exorbitant price and can range from anywhere between 70k - 4 Lakhs. We made the mistake of keeping this for the end, and had to settle with whoever was available. Our photography was done by Sunil Kapta and his son, Shrikant (based in Kolkata). I wasn't expecting much, yet they did a great job. I really like the photographs, angles and how they captured every moment perfectly.

Any special moment you want to share with us?
I think the entire wedding was very special, including all moments. Now I know why they always said, it’s the best day of your life yet everything will seem like a haze! They are plenty of moments, a few like when my brothers' lifted me on the piri (wooden plank) to take me around the groom, how I was totally not the "shy bride" during shubho drishti and looked straight in eye, and ohh.. memories of the food at my wedding that I couldn't relish to my heart’s content.

Any advice you want to all the readers out there?
Yes. Dear prospective brides/grooms and their family members, Wedding planning means a lot of hustle bustle, fun yet major goof ups, glitches, inflated egos and emotional break downs. The Bride and the Groom should keep calm, stick on with a smile through all ceremonies and never discuss goof ups and whose relatives did what, post their wedding. Brides should only focus on their trousseau, outfits and make up. Amidst all the craziness, I missed taking a picture with my grandfather on my wedding day and I feel really bad about it. So take pictures with everyone. Focus on having at least one picture with every person who comes to the wedding. And have the best time, laugh wholeheartedly, and cry if the situation makes you emotional. Make the most of every moment.

Editor’s Edit:-
Loved all of her looks. From her wedding trousseau to her makeup and choice of jewelry, everything was perfect and she looked flawless.

Heres wishing Madhubani and Sumit lifelong happiness. May the light of your love always glow upon your marriage!!! :)

My experience with The Body Shop British Rose Shower Gel:-
When in the bottle, the body wash looks pale pink and when poured on hand it is clear, transparent gel. The product has a runny gel like consistency and a sensuous rose fragrance. Floral fragrances generally don’t suit my sensitive nose but this British Rose scent is perfect - not overpowering at all for me. It smells like fresh roses and leaves my skin feeling clean but not overly dry. A small amount is needed and it lathers up really well on the body puff. It doesn't make the shower slippery. The smell lingers on me for hours and makes me feel refreshed and rejuvenated. My whole house smells like a rose garden.

Summing up my LIKES and DISLIKES:-

What I LIKE about The Body Shop British Rose Shower Gel:-
  • Alluring, sensuous and a very feminine fragrance.
  • Soap-free cleanser.
  • Small amount is needed.
  • Gentle on skin.
  • Lathers well.
  • Cleanses well.
  • Doesn’t over dry skin.
  • Travel friendly packaging.
  • Reasonably priced. I don’t mind paying more for a product I love to bits.

What I don’t like about The Body Shop British Rose Shower Gel:-
  • None as such.

Final Thoughts:-
I love shower gels from The Body Shop. I have used all of their variants and I am kind of obsessed with their fragrances. I can’t have enough of them. But this one is special in their range, unique and just feels much more luxurious. I love how it fragrances me and the whole house. I see myself repurchasing this again.

Recommendations?!!
Grab a bottle of this natural and fragrant shower gel as soon as you can. You are going to love it. I am planning to buy the exfoliating gel body scrub and the lotion from this range too.

Ratings:-
5/5

Hey everyone,

Today I am back with a review of a cult product from the world of NARS. It is the “Orgasm” Blush. What was NARS thinking when naming their products?? :P

NARS describes this as a peachy pink blush with golden shimmers. I cringe when I hear the words shimmer and blush together. So could the cult favorite NARS ORGASM blush impress me as well? Let’s see.

What the brand says about “Orgasm”:-
Orgasm Blush gives cheeks a perfect pinky-peach flush and subtly highlights with accents of golden shimmer. The perennially pleasing, universally flattering shade is repeatedly a makeup artist and beauty editor favorite.

Packaging:-
The packaging is pretty nice. A small, sleek case and has a mirror inside that is of decent size. The case is small enough to glide in your purse without any problem.

SHADE:-
It is a super stunning pinky-peach blush with accents of golden shimmer. The shimmers are non chunky and non-gritty and adds a warm sheen to your cheeks. It is a color that will suit almost everybody.

Texture:-
Soft and Smooth. The shimmers are finely filed and thus doesn’t hinder in even application.

Color payoff:-
It is well pigmented. Just a single swirl of the color can give you nice, healthy looking cheeks. It is buildable so you can have your desired color without much hassle.

Staying Power:-
From morning to night, it stays on me like forever.

Summing up my LIKES and DISLIKES:-

What I Liked about:-
  • A stunning color.
  • Works both as a blush and highlighter.
  • Work on most complexions
  • Non-gritty shimmers.
  • Soft and smooth texture.
  • Blends well.
  • Sleek packaging.
  • Well pigmented.
  • Stays long.

What I don’t like about NARS ORGASM Blush:-
  • Price.
  • Availability in India.

Final Thoughts:-
I love this blush. The soft coral touch is really adorable and I just love how my cheek glows after using this. It is a very versatile color and suits almost every complexion. Yes, I have recommended this color to others with different skin tones and types and it looked good on them as well. I have seen people wearing this in mornings too, but I personally prefer this only during evening.

DUPE List:-
Yes, being an iconic shade and a cult favorite of many, brands throughout the globe has tried to replicate it.

Chicken Dak- Bungalow Step by Step Recipe

Hello everyone,
Today I am here with a recipe of a sadly near-forgotten Bengali culinary treasure. This dish was very famous and popular during the period of the British rule in India. Dak-Bungalows were inns, traveler’s rest houses where people used to put up for the night. At that time the care-taker of the bungalow had their own poultry and this chicken dish was the “all time favorite” dinner or lunch item.

So let us dig into our tradition and devour this culinary treasure.

THINGS WE NEED:-

  • Chicken (medium pieces)
  • Curd
  • Onion sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste
  • Turmeric
  • Chili powder
  • Cumin powder
  • Eggs
  • Potatoes
  • Bay leaves
  • Cardamom
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon
  • Tomatoes
PROCEDURE:-

  1. Marinate the chicken with curd, turmeric powder, chili powder and cumin powder.
  2. Boil the eggs and peel the shell. Peel potatoes and cut into halves. Now heat oil in a pan and lightly fry the eggs and potatoes. Take them out and keep aside.
  3. Now pour oil in a pan and add the green cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon and bay leave. Dunk in the onions and fry till golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste, stir for a minute.
  5. Add tomato paste. Stir.
  6. Now add the marinated meat and continue cooking in medium flame.
  7. Add the potatoes and the egg.
  8. Pour some boiling water when the oil starts to separate. Cover the pan with a lid. Let the whole dish cook properly.
Cut the eggs into halves and enjoy the dish with steamed rice.
